INDEPENDENT STUDY / ART & PAPERMAKING COACHING

Fee includes an initial 15-minute consultation to discuss goals and work, etc. and one (optional) 15-minute check-in between longer meetings.

In a true independent study format, we can tailor your lessons to your personal skills, abilities and goals:

In-person studio sessions can include sheet formation, watermarking, pulp painting and/or writing, European, Asian, deckle-box or floating mould technqiues. Make paper from repurposed clothing and/or collected plant material and more.

On-line coaching includes hour-long zoom meetings where we discuss your creative goals, review and critique work with positive and constructive discussions on how to grow the project as well as lots of technical information. "Action items" [aka homework] are assigned for each consecutive session for accountability.
A native of Miami, Florida, my life-long connection with the natural environment began at an early age while exploring coastal waters and mangrove forests near my home.

A passion for art was later set in motion at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where I studied painting, drawing, art history and sculpture, completing a BFA in 1984. For many years since then I have worked as an artist, illustrator, science writer and educator.

Fascination with hand papermaking processes led me to complete an MFA in Book Arts at the University of Iowa [2016] with a focus on Japanese-style papermaking, along with the history, traditions, and the spiritual/ healing aspects of the practice.
